The North Eastern Melbourne Integrated Cancer Service, or NEMICS, is a service improvement network. It resulted from the Cancer Services Framework for Victoria (2003) when nine Integrated Cancer Services (ICS) were formed across Victoria. NEMICS is one of three metropolitan, five rural and one state wide paediatric Integrated Cancer Services.
Our stakeholders include public and private health services, general practitioners, community health sector, consumers and our funders, the Department of Health and Human Services. What brings us together is our commitment to achieve the highest quality care for people with cancer.
Austin Health acts as the host agency, where most of the NEMICS program staff member are based. The director is Associate Professor Paul Mitchell, the manager is Ms. Katherine Simons. There are a number of service improvement and project staff, including service improvement facilitators based in each of our health services.
NEMICS has a governance structure that includes a Governance Committee, a Clinical Reference Group, a Consumer Reference Group and multidisciplinary teams of clinicians in each of the ten tumour streams.
