|The Victorian cancer system requires timely, accurate and robust information upon which to base decisions.|
Victorian Integrated Cancer Services across the state have formed a steering committee to produce a framework to access and interpret the vast amount of data collected by hospitals and other health organisations. Much of this data is collected for a particular purpose and does not integrate with other data sets. Linking this data can provide a powerful tool to measure what we do in health care.
De-identified data can be used to measure the quality of activities by making comparisons with established benchmarks and against outcomes. Providers and managers of cancer care across our health systems are all contributing to this initiative.
A report in on this work is expected in twelve months.
