Multidisciplinary meeting (MDM) activity continues steady growth
There are 31 established MDMs in the NEMICS region. This is a 35% increase in the number of MDMs since 2010.
Twenty nine MDMs are utilising CANMAP. CANMAP enables clinicians to remotely submit patients and facilitates live documentation of the discussion and treatment recommendations. This tool has contributed to achieving the DHHS performance indicator target of 80% of newly diagnosed cancer patients having a documented treatment plan.
Communicating MDM treatment planning summaries to GPs
Providing timely and concise information to GPs is an important component of the oncology care pathway. To date, 15 MDMs are routinely communicating treatment recommendations to GPs. This has increased from seven in 2013/14 to 15 in November 2015. A further three MDMs at Austin Health will commence sending GP letters in 2016.
A recent audit showed 71% of patients discussed had letters sent to their GP with 80% of the letters sent within 3 working days. On request, NEMICS can collate this data for MD teams. For an example of a recent report click here.
