Timeliness of adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with stage III colon cancer
The Optimal Care Pathway for colorectal cancer states that starting adjuvant therapy within 8 weeks of surgery is optimal. The graph below shows NEMICS' 2015 performance with this measure:
The effect of referral to a second hospital for adjuvant treatment
For this study of patients from across Victoria there were 355 cases of adjuvant treatment for people with stage III colon cancer. Of these 326 were treated within the same ICS and 29 were referred to a different ICS from where they had their surgery.
For the same-ICS group, 73.9% were within 8 weeks
For the different-ICS group, 65.9% were within 8 weeks.
